A Free One-Day Trip in Richmond, VA ๐Ÿ†“โœจ

When it comes to free attractions, Richmond has some solid options: Virginia Museum of Fine Arts ๐Ÿ›๏ธ This was my main reason for visiting Richmond. The museum is fairly large, with a focus on European oil paintings, though it also has Asian and African art sections. If you like art, you can easily spend two hours here. The special exhibition Samurai Armor is in a separate downstairs gallery and costs $10 โ€” skip it unless you really love Japanese culture. Itโ€™s ending in August anyway. Parking in the museum lot is $6, but you can park for free on N Arthur Ashe Blvd. True free spirit! ๐Ÿš—๐Ÿ’จ Canal Walk ๐Ÿšถโ€โ™‚๏ธ Feels like a budget version of Parisโ€™ Canal Saint-Martin. Not very memorable โ€” I didnโ€™t even bother taking photos ๐Ÿ˜…. Nice for a casual stroll after a meal, but donโ€™t expect much. Nearby, the James River Pipeline Walk is full of bugs in hot weather โ€” not recommended. ๐Ÿœ Maymont House & Park ๐ŸŒธ A large park with pretty architecture, including an Italian garden and a Japanese garden (a bit far). Wildlife is pretty basic โ€” squirrels, Canadian geese, robins, etc. ๐Ÿฟ๏ธ Lots of people come here dressed up for photos. Worth a stop if you have time! ๐Ÿคณ Carytown ๐Ÿ›๏ธ Basically a commercial street โ€” aesthetically meh, but with some interesting little shops. Parking is free, so it doesnโ€™t hurt to explore. Final thoughts: The downtown area feels safe โ€” mostly middle-class white folks, no homeless or drug users in sight. But honestlyโ€ฆ itโ€™s kind of boring. You can cover everything in half a day. As for food โ€” plenty of other posts have recommendations, so Iโ€™ll skip that. #Museum #Travel #FreeTrip #Virginia #Richmond
