A Low-Key, Charming, and Unique Bookstore π
On a weekend stroll through the East Village, I stumbled upon this bookstore that exudes a minimalist and slightly aloof vibe from the outside. π π Inside, the store maintains a simple and understated style, steering clear of mainstream trends. Their collection includes both new and second-hand books. π The bookstore has a good selection of art, photography, and humanities books. π Many of them are quite rare, with only one copy available in the store. It's perfect for taking your time to browse and explore. πThe space may be small, but it's truly full of character. πΏ I looked up the store online and found out that the founder, Bryan Leitgeb, had always worked in bookstores and dreamed of opening his own. πIn 2010, he and his wife opened the first Mast Books in Alphabet City, with most of the books coming from their long-collected private collection. In 2018, they expanded to this larger Mast Books location in the East Village. π Mast Books is quite different from other well-known New York bookstores like Strand and McNally. They don't pander to mainstream tastes. π They proudly do their own thing, and their website is almost like a hidden gem. So full of personality! π I highly recommend that anyone interested take the time to visit and explore the store. π On a cold day, there's nothing better than wandering through a cozy bookstore. #NewYork π
