A Miraculously Surviving U.S. Indian Head Half-Eagle Gold Coin🏺✨
Today, through my "Coin Tales" series, I’m thrilled to unveil a rare gem from my personal collection—a U.S. Indian Head Half-Eagle Gold Coin—and share its fascinating history and the symbolic stories etched into its design. 🗝️ The Birth of a Legend 🎨 🤔In 1908, after the untimely death of renowned sculptor Augustus Saint-Gaudens, Bela Lyon Pratt was commissioned to redesign the iconic $5 Eagle Gold Coin. Pratt replaced Saint-Gaudens’ original Liberty figure with a bold male Native American profile, inspired by a photograph from his own collection—though the subject’s identity remains lost to time. 📸 Revolutionary Design 💫⚙️ 🪓Inciuse vs. Relief: Unlike traditional raised reliefs, Pratt’s design featured sunken lines, numbers, and letters, making it the only U.S. circulating coin (until 2014) with an incuse (recessed) pattern. 🔍 Symbolic Motifs: The reverse showcased two national mottos: "In God We Trust" 🙏🇺🇸 (America’s official creed) "E PLURIBUS UNUM" (Latin for "Out of Many, One"), borrowed from the Great Seal of the U.S. Why This Coin Matters 💎📚 This piece isn’t just metal—it’s a time capsule blending art, history, and cultural reverence. Its survival through decades of turmoil and collectors’ hands makes it a numismatic miracle. 🛡️💛 #GoldCoinMagic #NumismaticJourney #AmericanHeritage
