A Place of Hope Rising from the Ashes (2)π
The interior space is laid out according to Greek Orthodox tradition. Starting from the plaza to the west, one enters through the porch, outer narthex, and vestibule before reaching the nave. π’π Beyond the nave is the sanctuary, separated by an iconostasis, which only priests may enter. π In the center of the nave's dome, there is an icon of "Christ Pantocrator, Ruler of the Universe." The north and south niches feature translucent arched windows, while the east niche displays the altar icons. π’πA candlelit room on the side of the nave serves as a non - denominational meditation space. The vestibule and nave merge into a continuous area, which includes a shop controlling the entrance. π―οΈ The extension of the church's west tower contains vertical circulation spaces. π’π The upper level houses a bereavement room, community activity room, and offices. Light enters through the west facade's interlayer stone / glass curtain wall, offering views of Liberty Park and the World Trade Center Memorial. π π’πThese functional spaces reflect the church's open relationship with the site and community, adhering to religious traditions while incorporating 21st - century architectural concepts. π #ArchitectureDesign #DesignTalks #Architect #USA #AmericanArchitecture #WeekendPlans π
