A Retro Hunan Gem in LIC 🏮|Ye Yan
Tried Ye Yan tonight — right under my apartment in LIC, and honestly one of the nicest Chinese spots in the area. The interior is nostalgic and stylish, with a full bar that sets a great mood for dates or dinners with friends. As a Hunan native, I can vouch for the flavors! We started with sweet‑vinegar ribs — exactly like home. The signature whole fish 🐟 was tender, coated in a sweet‑spicy glaze, and topped with creative little tangyuan (rice balls) — so tasty with rice. The stir‑fried beef with wild peppers 🐂 was another standout — tender beef, fragrant herbs, and authentic Hunan heat. We also enjoyed the ginger chicken 🐔 — wok‑fried with wood ear mushrooms, savory and satisfying. Their cocktails 🍹 are thoughtful and well‑crafted — pretty, tasty, and clearly made with care. 📍 Address: 28-03 Jackson Ave, Long Island City, NY 11101 For elevated, flavorful Hunan cuisine in a charming LIC setting, Ye Yan is a local treasure.
