After A 2-Year Hiatus Due To Fire, A Beloved Tomales Bay Boat Shack Reopens — With Its Famous Dungeness Crab Mac ‘N Cheese
About an hour and a half up the coast from San Francisco, you’ll find Nick’s Cove , a waterfront hotel and restaurant on Tomales Bay. One of their most popular spots is the Boat Shack, a cozy gathering space at the end of the pier where guests can enjoy a drink or seafood meal out on the water. In January of 2024, the Boat Shack was ravaged by a fire that claimed the original historic structure from the 1930s, as well as dozens of vintage items. Nick’s Cove spent the next 23 months rebuilding it, and as of December 7th, 2025 , guests can once again enjoy a meal at the Boat Shack... such as the Dungeness crab mac ‘n cheese , which is also back after a long hiatus! The Boat Shack is back! ----------------------- The new Boat Shack at Nick’s Cove occupies the same footprint as the original one, retaining the same look and feel with nautical decor, a piano, and a gas stove to stay warm. There’s a large deck where you can enjoy your meal al fresco, and a new picture window on the west-facing wall with great bay views. There is no table service at the Boat Shack, but guests can bring food and drinks from the restaurant down the pier to enjoy at the communal tables. In even more exciting news, Nick’s Cove has brought back its popular Dungeness crab mac n’ cheese to celebrate the Boat Shack’s reopening — an updated recipe with orecchiette pasta, smoked cheddar, gruyere, and Parmesan. The Shack is also available to reserve for private events and the “Grand Wheelbarrow Experience,” where Nick’s Cove rolls out a wheelbarrow of Champagne, caviar, and fresh oysters. Visiting Nick’s Cove -------------------- Nick’s Cove makes for an easy coastal day trip from San Francisco, reached by a 1.5-hour scenic drive up Highway 1. Many visitors hit up Nick’s Cove after a day of hiking or whale watching in Point Reyes, a plate of oysters at The Marshall Store, or a visit to the Cypress Tree Tunnel and Inverness shipwreck. 🌐 Website : Nick’s Cove 📍 Location : 23240 CA-1, Marshall, CA 94940 Source: https://secretsanfrancisco.com/nicks-cove-boat-shack-tomales-bay/
