Of course, the smaller pieces are mostly adorable, with delicate cloisonné flower pieces, warm amber trinkets, and a variety of intricately crafted snuff bottles (I heard that the LA County Museum of Art has quite a few snuff bottles? Planning to check it out). 🎢🍃 There's a jade bi said to be a birthday gift for Emperor Qianlong, with pure white jade and meticulous craftsmanship, so precise it looks more machine-made than handcrafted. 🌟Although often not considered highbrow, I do have an interest in the arts and crafts of the Ming and Qing dynasties. Besides jewelry, snuff bottles, fan pendants, paperweights, and other elegant scholar's playthings, as well as other rare and curious items, all deserve to have books written about them. 🎢🍃 The small carvings from Siberian indigenous people are also very cute, mostly featuring polar animals. 🌟 But seeing a depiction of a man wrestling with a polar bear labeled as "Daily Life" made me laugh out loud. 🎢🍃I knew Japanese ivory carvings were exquisite, but I haven't seen many in person. I only saw Ojime – the "thread-fastening" bead in the book "The History of Pearls," and the feeling of familiarity yet strangeness is quite intriguing. #NewYork 🌃🌟
