Amsterdam Where to Go | Old Church Oude Kerk π°π¨
After getting my museum card, I went to the Old Church in the city center before shopping! Last week on Heritage Open Day, I visited the New Church (opposite the dam), which is still under renovation π¨, and you can visit the archaeological site π! Although the Oude Kerk is in the city center, it's not crowded with visitors, and the atmosphere is more classical and quiet. It probably no longer serves much of a religious function, and now it's more used as a historical monument and a venue for contemporary art exhibitions π. The wooden vaulted ceiling is really special. Although I've been to many churches of all sizes in Europe, this kind of wooden arched ceiling is quite rare. The entire church has many wooden elements, and the floor tiles also retain the historical feel of the monument βͺ. π£οΈ At the entrance, you can rent a multi-language audio guide for free, as well as get a brochure and map. Each space in the church has an identification code, and you can put the guide on it to activate and play. I personally think the visiting experience is very good!! π‘ Although the entire Old Church also serves as a contemporary art exhibition space, the exhibits do not conflict with the vibe of the church itself and are scattered in every corner. What I particularly like is the interactive exhibition in the high choir. πͺ¨ The space paved with cobblestones allows visitors to walk on it, hear the sound of stones colliding and squeezing, and take away a letter and two stones. #Europe #Amsterdam #AmsterdamLife #Netherlands #Church #ArchitecturalDesignAesthetics
