An Honest Experience at Miss Shang in SF
This is one of the newer restaurants in San Mateo. I actually avoided the dishes some reviews warned about, which is why I ordered these three: "Life Chicken Rice" — around $62 before tax 🍚🐔 The chicken was yellow-feathered — older folks might like it. About half a chicken in portion. The famous crispy rice at the bottom was just okay, not as good as claypot rice, and the rice itself was heavy on cream — similar to Spanish seafood rice vibes 🥘. If you’re not into that (like me), maybe skip. The plate was huge, but the rice layer was thin. Enough for two. Wait time: Almost an hour from order to serving — I was starving by then 😩. Stir-Fried Wild Mushrooms (on sale for ~$15 before tax) 🍄 Mushrooms didn’t taste fresh — included some common grocery-store varieties. Again, heavy cream flavor. Some bites were noticeably bitter 😖. Portion was medium-small. Cold Spicy Chicken Cartilage (~$11 before tax) 🌶️ Really don’t recommend. The charm of stir-fried spicy cartilage is its wok aroma — but cold, it just tasted oily and dull. Mostly peppers, very little meat. 💸 Note: They automatically add gratuity — 15% for 1–4 people, 18% for 5+ (printed right on the bill). Service was polite but basic (order confirmation, water refills, napkins; Wi-Fi only upon request). You order via QR code. With tax and tip, it came to about $55 per person. For that price and experience… probably wouldn’t return 🫤. #SanFranciscoFood #SanMateoEats #BayAreaFood #FusionCuisine #HonestReview #NotWorthIt #FoodieWarning #BayAreaDining 🍽️
