Anchorage, Alaska | 4-Day Winter Trip Guide
Here’s a relaxed yet fun-filled 4-day winter itinerary for Anchorage — perfect for those who love snowy landscapes, wildlife, and good food! 🚗 Car Rental: Booked a car with snow tires in advance through Hertz — picked up right at the airport. A big plus: this rental company allowed driving to the Arctic Circle (unlike some in Fairbanks!). 🏨 Accommodation: Stayed at the Sheraton Anchorage Hotel in downtown. Higher floors offer stunning views of the city surrounded by snow-capped mountains 🏔️. The facilities and breakfast were much better than what we had at the Marriott in Fairbanks. Big city vibes do make a difference! 🐾 Activities: Day 2: Visited the Alaska Wildlife Conservation Center — tickets can be bought online or on-site. Not too crowded this season. It’s not huge, but it has most of the wildlife species you’d want to see. A nice stop for animal lovers! Then we drove to Seward — a cute little town. It’s definitely more lively in summer (salmon runs, fishing boats), but in winter, it’s quiet and snowy. Many restaurants were closed, but we spotted sea lions! 🦭 Day 3: Matanuska Glacier Hike — booked directly via SMS through their official website (to avoid third-party fees!). No Chinese guides, just local staff. The first half of the hike was warm, but it got chilly after sunset — bring a hat/scarf! Gloves and waterproof shoes/pants are essential. We skipped the blue ice cave (heard it collapsed and isn’t as impressive now), but the glacier itself has blue ice formations that are just as magical! 🍽️ Food & Drinks: 1st Meal: F Street Station A cozy local bar with pilot-themed decor — very popular on weekends, so be prepared to wait. Their oysters and fried squid were delicious 😋 We over-ordered… and yes, don’t forget to try their drinks! 🍻 2nd Meal: Glacier Brewhouse An Instagram-famous spot with a great vibe. The king crab legs everyone raves about were a bit too salty for our taste (seems like a local flavor trend?), but the beer flights were a hit! 🍺 3rd Meal: MISO Japanese Sushi & Bar Standard sushi experience — decent but not mind-blowing. And yes… we over-ordered again 😂 ✨ Anchorage in winter is serene, beautiful, and full of surprises. Perfect for a short snowy escape! #US #Alaska #Anchorage #Sheraton Anchorage Hotel
