Location: New York, USA Architect: Jeanne Gang πΈπ Gilder Center for Science, Education, and Innovation at the American Museum of Natural History Design Introduction: The Gilder Center is a science, education, and innovation hub with a striking cave-like structure, and it is the newest addition to the American Museum of Natural History on Manhattan's Upper West Side. π πΈπ This 21,000-square-meter building, costing $465 million, is named after American billionaire investor and philanthropist Richard Gilder, who founded the Central Park Conservancy and established the Richard Gilder Graduate School within the museum. The project was first announced in 2014, broke ground in 2019, and was completed to commemorate the museum's 150th anniversary. π πΈπLed by Jeanne Gang, Studio Gang designed this organic architectural marvel, which resembles a water droplet. Its smooth exterior wraps around a massive central atrium, connecting four existing museum areas The new building clarifies many circulation paths and guides people in a comfortable loop, creating several pure visual focal points. π πΈπ The entrance is located in Theodore Roosevelt Park at the intersection of Columbus Avenue and 79th Street.
