AZ|Shimogamo Japanese Cuisine|Three Visits & Still Impressed
Sharing a Japanese spot I’ve visited three times – Shimogamo. Two of those visits were during restaurant week, so I’ve tried a variety of dishes. They offer seasonal menus featuring imported limited-time fish (though the regular menu is already delicious). The wall also lists specials that change each visit – recently there was bone marrow, worth trying if available! Highlights from my visits: Shimogamo Shooter ($12/each) – uni, ikura, and fresh fish in a shot glass 🥂 Wagyu Oxtail + Uni Board ($21) – a friend’s favorite! Kiwami Spoon ($18) – luxurious bite on a spoon👍😍 Appetizers like Hamachi Chili Lime Crudo and Truffle Amberjack – tangy, saucy, fresh sashimi The ingredients are consistently high quality – uni and fish slices are always on point. Apart from specialties, I often order sweet shrimp – the crispy fried head is delicious! Recently tried Kanburi (rare winter yellowtail from Japan) – tasty, though not mind-blowing. During restaurant week, I sampled three different hand rolls – each had complex flavors and great freshness. For dessert, I’ve only had the matcha cake – strong tea flavor, served with Japanese strawberries 🍓 – a lovely finish. 📍 Two locations: A smaller, cozy spot near Chandler’s Lee Lee Market A more modern, spacious restaurant near SanTan Village in Gilbert 📅 Reservations recommended for both! #AZEats #JapaneseFood #Shimogamo #FoodieFinds #SushiLovers #AZFoodScene
