Bao Bao Dumpling – A Little Pricy, But Truly Tasty SF Soup Dumplings

Wanted to try Breadbelly’s shrimp sandwich, but they were sold out 😢… Luckily, while parking, I spotted a sign that looked a lot like Xiao Yang Sheng Jian — so I decided to give it a try! We ordered: 🦐 Shrimp Sheng Jian Bao 🐖 Pork Potstickers 🥬 Shepherd’s Purse & Pork Wontons They served jasmine tea as a complimentary drink — and it was surprisingly lovely! ☕️ A bit of a wait for the food, but here’s the breakdown: 🥟 Shepherd’s Purse Wontons The flavor was well-balanced — white pepper, shepherd’s purse, and pork in harmony. The wrapper was soft and silky (I prefer mine a bit firmer). The broth was simple — dried shrimp & seaweed. A touch of chicken oil would’ve made it perfect! Rating: 4.5/5 🦐 Shrimp Sheng Jian Bao Really impressive! The skin was semi-leavened, the bottom was crispy but not overly hard — probably one of the best I’ve had in the U.S. Each bun contained 2-3 whole shrimp 🍤, and the broth was flavorful but not overwhelming. Rating: 5/5 🐷 Pork Potstickers Came last but worth the wait! The wrapper was delightfully firm, the bottom was fragrant and crisp (though not the classic “wing” shape). The filling was tighter and slightly sweeter than the sheng jian. Rating: 4.5/5 Each dish was around $15 — a bit on the pricey side, but the quality stood out. Tastes better than iShanghai, Shanghai Dumpling, Shanghai No. 1, and even Din Tai Fung! Didn’t try the xiaolongbao this time — too full, and the shape looked a bit unusual in photos. If you’ve tried them, let me know! 📍 Bao Bao Dumpling #SFFood #BayAreaEats #ShengJianBao #DumplingLove #ShanghaiCuisine #BayAreaLife #FoodReview #SanFranciscoEats
