Brazil Travel Tips: Avoid These Pitfalls đ§đˇâ ď¸
Tested and verified based on personal experience: 1ď¸âŁ When you first arrive in Brazil, use Uber or the 99 App to book rides. Avoid unlicensed taxis. On November 15, right after I landed at the airport, a local guy approached me offering a taxi â turns out it was an unlicensed car, and I was charged over 4,000 BRL for a 100 km ride! Donât trust strangers â always book through apps. 2ď¸âŁ When using credit cards in Brazil, always choose to pay in Brazilian Reais (BRL) on the POS machine. The first time I used my CCB MUSE card, I didnât select BRL, and each large transaction was charged an extra 16% service fee. 3ď¸âŁ Security is a serious issue in big Brazilian cities, especially SĂŁo Paulo. There are many unhoused people on the streets, and taking out your phone can make you a target for theft. Even in relatively safer cities like Campinas, stay alert and avoid showing valuables in public. 4ď¸âŁ UnionPay cards are not widely accepted in Brazil, especially in small shops and non-chain restaurants. Itâs best to carry some cash. Visa cards are more commonly accepted and easier to use. 5ď¸âŁ If your Uber driver doesnât pick you up or drop you off at the specified location and charges a waiting fee, you can file a complaint and request a refund. Responses usually come within a day, and refunds are processed quickly. 6ď¸âŁ During Brazilian holidays, tourist areas get crowded, traffic worsens, and prices rise. More importantly, holidays often see increased robbery and crime rates. Be extra cautious when going out, avoid crowded areas, and especially stay indoors at night. #BrazilTravel #TravelTips #StaySafe #travel guide#brazil#Brasilia
