California ·San Jose The Eerie and Mysterious Winchester Mystery House
On the way back, we passed through downtown San Jose and decided to visit the world-famous Winchester Mystery House👻. We booked the Mansion Tour and Basement Access tickets on the official website—signed up for an account and got a discount. Total came to around $56. Our guide was a super enthusiastic lady who asked about our language preference and provided a Chinese guidebook. You could really tell she loves her job! The Mansion Tour is a guided walk through the entire mysterious house, while the Basement Access lets you wear a hardhat⛑️ and explore the basement on your own. There are spots where workers reportedly saw ghosts👻. They even host special spooky events during Halloween!🎃 The mansion was built starting in 1884 by Sarah Winchester, widow of firearm magnate William Winchester. Construction went on intermittently for 38 years and even survived an earthquake. The current structure has been restored based on the original design! The architecture is incredibly unique: 161 rooms, 10,000 windows, 2,000 doors, 47 fireplaces, 17 chimneys, 13 bathrooms, 6 kitchens, and countless staircases and corridors. Some rooms even have 13 windows! Stairs lead to ceilings, doors open to walls or empty drops—all meant to confuse the ghosts of those killed by Winchester rifles.👻 #SanJoseCalifornia #LifeInSanJose #SanJoseTravel #BayArea #SanFrancisco #California #BayAreaTravelGuide #TravelGuide #TravelEditor #ExploreTheWorld
