Case Study: The Eye of the Aspen Tree - Hotel Design.🏨🌲

Designed by Studio Gang, the Populus hotel in Denver, USA, opens itself to the city and the distant Rocky Mountains, aiming to become a vibrant social hub in downtown Denver. 🏙️🏔️ The building features a unique sculptural facade that welcomes the surrounding community from three sides, connecting Denver’s civic, artistic, and commercial districts. 🏛️🎨🛍️ The texture and rhythm of its exterior are closely integrated with the hotel’s functions. Each vertical groove matches the width of a guest room, while the size of the windows varies based on the building’s public and private spaces. 🪟📐 The distinctive window shapes are inspired by aspen trees – as these trees grow, their fallen branches leave dark, eye-shaped marks on the paper-like bark. 🍃👁️ The window design also prioritizes energy efficiency in Denver’s climate. Each window’s "awning" extends outward based on the sun’s direction, providing shade for the interiors while cleverly directing rainwater to keep the facade clean. 🌞💧✨ #USA#Denver#PopulusHotel #StudioGang #ArchitectureDesign #SustainableDesign #DenverArchitecture
