Cayuga Valley Sunsets & Storm King in the Rainy Season 🌧️🌄
Upstate has its own monsoon season. On one repetitive evening, I stood at Aurora Brewing overlooking the Cayuga Valley. The rain had just washed the vineyards clean, and a cool, grassy breeze carried the scent of wet earth. Then—a break in the clouds. The sunset exploded in aggressive pink hues, pulling everyone from indoors to the lawn, where three amateur jazz musicians kept playing. I fantasized about owning this vineyard, sipping my own brew, opening the stables... 🍷🐎 Later, at Storm King Art Center, I stood at a sink facing a wall of maple trees, my eyes itching from pollen-induced allergies. A wave of existential doubt hit—why am I even here? The empty fields and scattered sculptures felt like meteors fallen from the galaxy—out of place, purposeless. But then, golden hour. The steel structures glowed, kids sprinted across muddy paths, and the grass splashed underfoot. I imagined Degas’ ballerinas or an open-air Les Misérables. (I’ve always found parking for Hamilton annoying, but I’ll never forget Shakespeare on the lawn at dusk.) A French-dressed woman returned her rental bike and collected her luggage. And just beyond, over the Hudson Valley, a torrential love story was about to begin. 💘 Ever gotten lost in upstate’s magic?
