🍲 Chinatown Find — Golden Palace Pot Pot Good
I’d been curious about this spot on Mott Street since it was under renovation, and finally tried it over Thanksgiving while wandering around Chinatown. Here’s the honest take! 1️⃣ Shredded Chicken with Pickled Ginger — $13 Sadly, this was a letdown. Very small portion, and the chicken itself was dry and bland — we left over three-quarters untouched. The pickled ginger was the only tasty part. 2️⃣ Pickled Mustard with Crispy Fish Slices — $19 The winner of the meal! Full of wok hei, fragrant, and the fish was perfectly crispy. Highly recommend! 3️⃣ Braised Goose with Tofu Skin — $30+ The sauce was flavorful and the tofu skin was delicious, but the goose was overcooked to the point of being mushy. 4️⃣ Stir-Fried Four Vegetables — ~$17 A simple but decent veggie dish — the jicama added a nice crunch! 5️⃣ "Champagne" Ribs — $24 These were essentially fried ribs with a heavy marinade, served with a sweet-sour plum-like sauce. The flavors didn’t really come together, and the ribs were overly salty. 6️⃣ Roasted Pigeon — $26 each Very disappointing — dry, clearly not fresh, and lacking any juiciness or flavor. Felt like a leftover bird reheated. 💰 A Note on Tipping The suggested tip here is calculated after tax, which felt a bit unfair. I adjusted to 18% on the pre-tax amount. The server who helped us was kind, but honestly, if it had been the other staff member with the raspy voice, I might’ve gone lower. Overall, a mixed experience — some hits, some clear misses. If you go, stick to the wok-tossed dishes and maybe skip the meats. 🥢 #GoldenPalacePotPotGood #ChinatownNYC #NYCEats #ChineseFood #HonestReview #MixedBag #WokHei #FoodDiary #NYCFoodie
