Colombia's Caño Cristales（2）

Caño Cristales is a breathtaking river that traverses Colombia, featuring nearly every color of the rainbow. What sets it apart is that this "magic" only appears during the hot summer months. For six months of the year, the river looks like any other, but from June to November, it gradually transforms into a vibrant display of yellow, blue, green, red, and black, bringing the water to life. 🌈 At first glance, it seems as though the water itself is flowing in different colors, but upon closer inspection, you can see the underwater carpet of aquatic plants. The unique species responsible for this stunning phenomenon is called Macarenia clavigera. 🌿 This plant, which lies somewhere between moss and algae, clings to hard surfaces underwater and requires just the right water level, sunlight, specific water temperature, and mineral content to thrive. Thus, it is also known as the most finicky aquatic plant. Currently, it is only found in a few rivers in South America, and nowhere else in the world is it as densely concentrated as in Caño Cristales. 🌊 #Colombia #South America
