Come Play With Me : Boise & Stanley
🥔⛺️🚗Say “Idaho” and most people picture a potato with a smiley face. I did too—until a Sun-Valley-loving friend twisted my arm and Yellowstone popped up on the same map. Cue a 16-day, 6-state road-trip exodus from the Bay Area: Route: Bay Area ➡️ Nevada ➡️ Utah ➡️ Boise ➡️ Stanley ➡️ Sun Valley ➡️ Twin Falls ➡️ Craters of the Moon ➡️ Yellowstone Spoiler: Idaho is a sleeper hit of epic proportions. Here’s how we squeezed the juice out of Days 1-5. BOISE – Big-City Amenities, Small-Town Heartbeat Base: Downtown. Clean, safe, walkable, sunset-orange Capital dome always in view. City Walk Bingo (all within 1 mile) Idaho State Capitol – free dome tour, Instagram-worthy rotunda. Freak Alley Gallery – ever-changing mural tunnel; smells like aerosol and creativity. 8th Street Promenade – outdoor-gear flagships (ski, fly-fish, raft) that double as modern art galleries. 🎣🎨 Fuel Up – Potato Edition Boise Fry Company – taste 5 tubers + 10 house-made salts/dips in one “rainbow” tray. The STIL – Boise Ice & Wine Lounge; craft cider flight > ice-cream for me. Westside Drive-In (historic) – order the Potato Ice-Cream (looks like a baked spud, tastes like vanilla soft-serve rolled in cocoa) and Finger Steaks (Idaho’s unofficial state dish—deep-fried beef strips). 🍟🍦 STANLEY – Sawtooth Soul Therapy 4 hrs north of Boise, the road climbs 5,000 ft and the thermometer drops 25 °F. Welcome to a valley so pretty it feels like Switzerland forgot to bill you. Sawtooth Valley Pioneer Park A pull-out with a playground slide that stares straight at jagged 10,000-ft peaks. Kids giggle, parents clutch coffee, everyone wins the desktop-wallpaper lottery. 🏔️ Redfish Lake Size: 4.5 mi long, Tahoe-blue, framed by the full Sawtooth wall. Playground: kayak, SUP, sail, motor-rentals at lodge beach. Sleep: reserve Glacier View Campground early—huge sites, 2-min walk to water. ⛵️ Little Redfish Lake Smaller, quieter, first-come first-served Chinook Bay CG. We arrived at 8 a.m., snagged a lake-edge spot, spent 24 hrs chasing sunrise/sunset reflections that turned the surface into glassy Monet. Highlight of the entire road-trip. 🌅 Hot-Spring Hop Stanley sits on a geothermal jackpot. We sampled Valley Creek Hot Springs—a sandy, milky pool right beside a rushing mountain river. Silt underfoot = free mud-mask. Cool off with a quick dip in the snow-melt creek next door. ♨️❄️ #US #ID #Boise
