Comprehensive Guide to the Lake District🌊
Accommodation: We chose to stay in St. Wolfgang, where the scenery is incredibly beautiful, whether it’s a sunny or cloudy day. The balcony offered direct views of the lake. , which is also a good choice since it’s a transportation hub. You’ll need to transfer there whether you’re heading to Vienna or Hallstatt. Food:🤤 dSpeis: This is the highest-rated restaurant in St. Wolfgang. The food is amazing. The appetizer, vitello Austria, was so delicious that I cleaned my plate. You can email for a reservation, but when I visited, it wasn’t too crowded, so a walk-in might also be possible.💚 Best of Best Chinese Restaurant: Located next to the train station in Bad Ischl, this newly opened restaurant has a friendly owner. They offer a buffet and à la carte options. The prices are very reasonable, with an average cost of less than 20 euros per person. I ate there for two days in a row. Sights:🗺️ St. Wolfgang: We took the cogwheel train, which you can book online or purchase tickets on-site. The views from the mountain are stunning. It gets very cold in winter, so two hours are enough. You can also buy boat tickets at the train station. There are circular routes and options to visit nearby towns by boat. During Christmas, the town is beautifully decorated with a strong festive atmosphere, much more charming than what you’d find in the UK. Hallstatt: It takes about an hour to get there from St. Wolfgang by bus and train. Once you arrive, ‼️follow the signs to the pier and take a boat to the town. Hallstatt is small and can be explored in two to three hours. We tried the popular fruit tart, but I didn’t like the cinnamon flavor. There are also some lovely shops to visit. If you’re staying here, you can visit the salt mine, but I skipped it due to the cold weather and oversleeping.🚌 Note: There’s only one small supermarket in St. Wolfgang, and it closes early.💚 🏡Despite the cold, the Lake District in winter is truly beautiful. The Christmas atmosphere is especially wonderful. I stayed for three nights and experienced both sunny and snowy days. I’d definitely come back if I had the chance. #Austria #StWolfgang #Travel
