Cuban 🇨🇺 Tamales Are Delicious!

Met up with Claudia, whom I hadn't seen in ages, and celebrated her move to a place not far from my home. After playing sports, we headed straight to the restaurant 🍴. This time, we checked out the well-reviewed Cuban restaurant located in a residential area: Cuban 🇨🇺 Restaurant Al son de Cuba The corn 🌽 tamales are quite similar to the glutinous rice zongzi we have back home, with large chunks of meat and olive pulp—perfect for sharing. 😋 The empanadas, a common dish in Latin American cuisine, are often thought to be from Argentina, but they're actually quite popular all over Latin America. While the ones I've had in Argentina were more baked, these were fried, giving them a crispy texture. 🥔 For the main course, I initially wanted to order ropa vieja, but my good friend Clau, who is from the Canary Islands, recommended a dish called tipica cubana (Cuban specialty). The pork chop was decent—thick and substantial, but the taro was a bit hard for my taste, undercooked and without any seasoning. The best part was the black bean sauce mixed with white rice. Overall, the appetizers were more enjoyable than the main dish. 🍽️ The coconut 🥥 cheese dessert was a delightful contrast of sweet coconut and savory Latin cheese, though it was so filling that we ended up taking it home in a doggy bag. 🍼 The coconut 🥥 pudding 🍮 was also very coconut-forward, almost overshadowing the egg flavor, but it was rich and satisfying. 🥤 💰 Average cost: 24-25 euros 📍 Al Son de Cuba 📪 Calle General Lacy 11/ Calle General Ancora 25 #food #Madrid #MadridEats #MadridFoodie #MadridLife #FoodWithoutBorders #MadridRestaurant
