Daily Architecture Case Study - Day 499 🏛️😎
🌷Case Name: Remai Modern Art Museum 👏Architectural Design: KPMB Architects 🎥Key Learning Points: Form Design 🎓Case Introduction: 1⃣ The form of the Remai Modern Art Museum echoes the flat prairie landscape of Saskatchewan while also paying homage to local traditional low-rise buildings, straight-lined barns, and farmhouses. Four cantilevered horizontal volumes face the riverbank to the south and Second Avenue to the east. The south façade spans the entire site, with the ground floor entirely enclosed by glass, creating a continuous and bright riverside public space. The museum has entrances on all four sides, seamlessly integrating with the riverside pedestrian routes. 🌊🚶♀️ 2⃣ Public spaces on each floor are designed to connect with the river as much as possible. The atrium unifies the floor plan and provides a space for gathering and communication. A wide staircase on the ground floor offers a continuous path to all floors. The building's exterior is clad in a layer of reddish-brown metal mesh, inspired by Saskatoon's historic landmark: the Bessborough Hotel (CNR, 1932). 🏨🎨 3⃣ The Remai Modern Art Museum bridges history and the future. While establishing a close connection with the Mendel Art Gallery, it further solidifies the importance of art in "making Saskatoon an innovative city of lifelong learning." 🌟📚 👏👏Image Source: (Good Design Network).
