Dakar Cultural Day Trip in Senegal
Route 🛞: King Fahd Hotel → Gorée Island → Grand Mosque → African Renaissance Monument → Sunset at Les Almadies (Westernmost Point of Africa). Along the Atlantic coast, experience African culture, Islamic heritage, and the anti-colonial spirit of West Africa. 🌈 Itinerary: 10:00 - Wake up naturally (weekend vibes!) and depart at 10:40 to reach the port, ensuring you catch the 11:00 ferry. ⛴️ 11:00 - 15:00 - Explore Gorée Island’s historic sites and scenic views. Dive into its history—no need for a guide since everything can be found on Google. 🏝️ For lunch, try local eateries near the pier—their fried rice with soy sauce and Gambas (prawns) are delicious and affordable! 😋 The House of Slaves opens at 14:30, but a quick visit is enough before heading back to the dock for the return ferry. 16:30 - 18:30 - Visit the Grand Mosque 🕌 (stunning oceanfront architecture, perfect for photos) and the African Renaissance Monument (climb up if you’re up for it, or just admire from below). The two spots are close to each other. 19:00 - Arrive at Les Almadies, the westernmost point of Africa, for a breathtaking sunset (15 mins is enough!). 🌅 Don’t forget to snap a pic with the iconic sign (check out Fig. 9!). For dinner, head to "La Mer Ouest" (search Restaurant chinois La mer ouest on Google), a Chinese restaurant right over the water! 🏮 Must-tries: Braised Abalone in Special Sauce and Sweet & Sour Cabbage. Yum! 🥢 #Senegal #Dakar #WestAfrica #LifeInAfrica #AfricaTravel ✨
