Day 2 in Lisbon: A Journey to MAAT Museum 🚶♂️🌞
MAAT, the Museum of Art, Architecture, and Technology, is a fascinating blend of old and new. The museum consists of two distinct buildings—one is the original power plant, and the other is a sleek, modern structure that integrates an art gallery and a pedestrian bridge. The contrast between the two is striking! 🏗️⚡ The exhibitions are thoughtfully curated to complement their spaces. The historic power plant hosts a permanent display on energy and electricity, featuring massive, well-preserved machinery that occasionally springs to life with interactive elements like turning gears—absolutely mesmerizing! 🤯⚙️ Currently, it also houses a photography exhibition by Willian Klein and Black Ancient Futures. On the modern side, you’ll find several contemporary art exhibitions, including continuations of Black Ancient Futures, as well as showcases by Vivien Suter and Anthony McCall. Personally, I loved McCall’s work—definitely worth experiencing! 🎥 Outside the museum, the installations, combined with views of the distant bridge and the faint outline of the Cristo Rei statue, create a truly cool vibe. 🌉🗿 Belém is quite a trek, so I stopped at two spots along the way. The Time Out Market in the city center was a great choice—I had what might be the best pastel de nata ever! 🥧😋 On the way back, I made a detour to LxFactory, but it felt a bit underwhelming, with shops full of touristy souvenirs. Not sure it’s worth a special trip. 🛍️🙄 Another fun adventure: I passed by a takeaway food shop (São Bernardo) and noticed locals—aunties and uncles—walking in confidently. Curious, I followed and grabbed two ready-made dishes. Then, I spotted a dessert rack with huge cakes and asked if I could buy a slice. The cashier said no… but then, seeing my disappointment, she surprised me with a small pastry from another shelf! 🧁💖 Back at the apartment, I plated everything and dug in—so delicious! 🍽️😊 #museum #lisbon #travel #exhibitionrecommendations #mustvisits #fooddiary
