Edinburgh Hidden Gem | Scottish National Gallery of Modern Art🏛️

📍National Galleries of Scotland: Modern One🏛️ My No. 1 treasure spot in Edinburgh this time.🫡 It is divided into Modern One and Modern Two. Currently, only Modern One is open; the other is under renovation. Just as I walked in, I was blown away! There are so many hidden gems here! There are works from Dadaism and Surrealism masters... Picasso, Dalí, Magritte, Miró—they’re all here! I don’t know why almost no Edinburgh travel guides recommend it. I was surprised to find that Dalí’s famous “Lobster Telephone,” which is hard to see in London, is ignored here in Edinburgh. The most stunning part is the blue neon sign on the gallery building saying “everything is going to be alright.”💠 And the maze-like, stylish little lake at the entrance is so cool.💧 The gallery’s small garden has many surreal sculptures, including works by the UK’s most famous contemporary artist, Antony Gormley. I remember my first post was about seeing his exhibition at the Royal Academy in London.📸 Exploring the relationship between space and the human body through suspended sculptures is so amazing... There’s even a sculpture standing in the waterfall behind the gallery! Super impressive. The gallery has many paintings by Matisse, Derain, and David Hockney🖼️, along with works by Duchamp, Andy Warhol, Munch, and other Pop Art and Expressionism masters. You can really feel the strong styles of these works, which are heavily influenced by Bergson’s intuitionism and Freud’s theory of the unconscious. By the way, there are hardly any Chinese visitors here; it’s mostly foreign art enthusiasts. ——— 🚇: No direct subway or bus. It costs less than £10 to take a taxi from Princes Street or The Royal Mile. Take the TRAM to West End and walk for 15 mins. Buses 19, 37, X55, and X59 can also get you there, but you’ll need to walk for about the same time. 📍: National Galleries of Scotland: Modern One It’s in the northwest of the city center, close to Dean Village, which is great for a combined outing. 🎫: Free (no reservation needed; just walk in) ⏳: 10:00-17:00 (Monday-Sunday) ⚠️: It takes about 3 hours to explore fully.🚶🏼‍♀️ #Edinburgh #Scotland #EdinburghTravel
