Encountering a Tomato and Egg Sunset at Sintra’s Pena Palace

“You must set aside a day for Sintra when you’re in Lisbon.” That’s what a friend told me before I left. Sintra is a town north of Lisbon, a summer retreat for the Portuguese royal family, rich in natural and cultural landscapes, with Pena Palace being one of the spots. Pena Palace is closed for two days during Christmas, so we could only rush there in the afternoon of the 23rd, but this high-altitude attraction is best visited in the afternoon or evening when the light is beautiful for photography. 🚗Transportation: Taxis in Portugal are quite affordable; I recommend taking a taxi, which costs around 20 euros one way. It’s advisable to catch a taxi near Praça Dom Pedro IV, as the roads towards the sea are one-way and prone to traffic jams, which can waste time. 🎫Tickets: Book directly on the official website. If you have time, you can buy tickets that include a small bus to the park, which cost 14 euros for an adult. Try not to be late; they let people in every half hour, but we were about 10 minutes late and they still let us in. ⏰Opening Hours: 9:30-18:30, closed on major holidays. The first half of the tour is an indoor visit with many antiques and porcelain items; just follow the guide. The second half is an external visit of the castle, passing by a terrace café. There are photo spots everywhere, mainly because the evening light is just so beautiful. The architectural style of Pena Palace is really hard to sum up; the imagination and romanticism of the high-saturation colors are truly pleasing to the eye. Don’t miss it when you’re in Lisbon! #HolidayCityWalk #Lisbon #LisbonTravel #Portugal #PortugalTravelGuide #Sintra #PenaPalace #PenaPalaceCastle #Travel #Photography #PhotographyInspiration #SceneryOnTheRoad #NoteInspiration
