Enjoy A Free Organ Concert Every Weekend At This Beautiful San Francisco Art Museum

The Legion of Honor is undeniably an iconic part of San Francisco . The museum is known for showcasing works from world-renowned artists. More recently, the museum has drawn thousands with its Cake Picnics, where people baked over 1,000 cakes and shared them with each other on the museum grounds. Along with its permanent collections and temporary exhibitions, the museum also hosts weekly free organ concerts. Every Saturday at 4 p.m ., organists perform in the Rodin Gallery. The 100-year-old organ is integrated into the gallery, surrounded by sculptures and beautiful chandeliers. The organ was gifted to the museum for its opening in 1924, and 4,526 pipes were customized to fit into the museum. Parts of the rotunda are canvas-painted to look like stucco to allow the organ to be heard through the museum. Experienced organists play Saturdays at 4 pm, and entry is free for San Francisco residents . If you haven’t had the chance to explore the Legion of Honor yet, the organ shows are the perfect time. Along with the regular organ concerts, the museum is also debuting a dance commission on select Saturdays. Starting on August 30th , you can see site-specific performances intended to honor and interact with the museum’s iconic architecture. The Legion of Honor is celebrating 100 years, with a special exhibition that looks at the museum’s past, including its opening in 1924 and expansion in the 90s. Events to celebrate the museum’s major anniversary have been ongoing since November 2024 and will continue until November of this year.
