I stumbled upon Spring by China Mama – the highest-rated Chinese restaurant near me on Google Maps – and decided to give it a try. What followed felt like a Michelin-star experience, but with even better service (unlike some Michelin spots where servers can be kinda cold 🙄). The meal began with a comforting duck broth soup to warm the stomach. Their fruit tea was absolutely incredible – it puts those trendy bubble tea shops to shame! 🍋 Refreshing, tangy, and perfectly balanced. The ambiance and tableware felt upscale, making you feel like you’re getting a luxury experience without the luxury price tag. 🦆 Peking Duck Set: Served as a full set with a live demonstration by a foreign server – who expertly showed us how to wrap spring pancakes in just 3 minutes. As a Beijinger, being taught how to wrap spring rolls by a foreigner was both hilarious and heartwarming 😄 The emotional service here truly elevates the dining experience. 🥢 Stir-Fried Mixed Vegetables: A must-order with the pancakes! The eggs were tender and flavorful. 🥩 Pepper Beef: A black pepper-seasoned beef dish, more tender than steak, served sizzling on a hot plate with onions and scallions – rich and deeply satisfying. 🍤 Sweet & Crispy Shrimp (Guo Bao Shrimp): At first glance, I thought it was classic sweet & sour pork! The crispy coating and sweet glaze tasted just like the authentic version back home. Even the shredded scallions and carrots transported me right back to China 🏡 I’ve tried so many "Guo Bao" dishes in the U.S. – especially in NYC – but none nailed the texture and sauce like this one.
