Explore Pittsburgh’s History 🏰
This long weekend, I fully immersed myself in Pittsburgh’s history — and I’m excited to share some key historical battles and sites with you! 🧭📜 Here are four key locations to visit: 📍 Fort Pitt & Fort Duquesne (in downtown Pittsburgh, Ohio Valley) 📍 Fort Necessity & Jumonville Glen (outside the city — both part of a National Historic Park) 🎖️ The Historical Backstory: The North American theater of the Seven Years’ War between Britain 🇬🇧 and France 🇫🇷 began over control of the Ohio Valley. France had long traded with Native tribes, but British colonists also wanted the land. So the British built Fort Pitt, and the French built Fort Duquesne. Tensions rose during a supposed “negotiation,” which led to a mysterious skirmish. The French claimed their commander, Jumonville, was only delivering a message 📜. But a young George Washington insisted the French attacked first ⚔️. In the fight, 13 French soldiers died — including Jumonville, who was killed by Tanaghrisson, an Iroquois leader allied with the British. This site is now called Jumonville Glen — a peaceful spot perfect for hiking today 🍃. Knowing he’d sparked a crisis, Washington quickly built Fort Necessity 🛡️ — but soon faced a French counterattack. The British General Braddock worsened relations with Native allies, and without their support, Washington lost the Battle of Fort Necessity. Braddock died in the fighting. Ultimately, Britain won the war — thanks to strategic victories in Europe and stronger colonial forces 🏴. But ironically, this also paved the way for the colonies’ confidence to later launch the American Revolution in 1776! 🇺🇸✨ I kept it brief, but if you visit Pittsburgh, don’t miss these historic sites and their stories! ✨ Follow me for more cultural stories and U.S. travel guides! #SevenYearsWar #NativeAmericanHistory #Iroquois #AmericanRevolution #PittsburghHistory #USHistory #HistoricalTravel #FortNecessity #GeorgeWashington 🎩🌲
