Exploring Oxford's Classic French Cuisine - Pierre Victoire 🍽️
The chefs are all French, and I sat next to the kitchen, where I could hear them chatting in French. One thing worth mentioning is the baguette and butter served before the meal—it was incredibly delicious. I initially thought it was complimentary, but it turned out to be charged at the end of the meal. Each table has fresh flowers, and you can tell the owner has put a lot of effort into the decor. The music in the restaurant is very "French," making it perfect for an evening out with friends or a date, enjoying drinks and conversation. 📍 Oxford French Dining Experience | Pierre Victoire 🍽️ 📍 Address: Pierre Victoire, next to the University of Oxford 💰 Average Cost: Around £20 (set menu) 🔹 Overall Experience: I have to admit that French cuisine isn't something I'm used to eating... 😂 But I decided to give it a try because of the restaurant's reputation as an Oxford classic. 🍽️ Dish Reviews: ✅ Escargots (French Snails) – This was my first time trying snails. The garlic butter flavor was quite strong, and the texture was somewhere between conch and sea snail. The taste was okay... ✅ Confit de Canard (Duck Leg) – This was pretty good. The skin was crispy, and the meat was tender. The dish was served with sweet and sour oranges and watercress, which helped cut through the richness. ✅ Suprême de Poulet (Roast Chicken) – The chicken was served with creamy mushroom sauce and mashed potatoes. The sauce was rich, and the chicken was tender, but the overall flavor was a bit bland. The mashed potatoes were quite smooth, though. ✅ Pâté de Foie de Volaille (Chicken Liver Pâté) – The texture was smooth, served with sweet onion jam and toasted bread. The flavor was a bit strong for my taste. 🔹 Overall Rating: ✅ The ambiance is very French and chic, with a strong sense of atmosphere. 🎻🎶 ✅ The value for money is decent. For £20, you get two or three courses, which is quite affordable for French cuisine. ❌ The flavors are on the lighter and more European side, which might take some getting used to. 🤯 ❌ There aren't many standout dishes; the overall surprise factor is average. Out of 10, I'd give the atmosphere 7 points and the food 5 points. ⚖️ Who It's For: Friends who love French cuisine and enjoy a cozy atmosphere should definitely give it a try! However, if you prefer spicy food or are used to bold flavors, you might find the dishes a bit underwhelming and bland. 😅 #RestaurantRecommendation #Oxford
