Ford Foundation Center for Social Justice
๐ฟThe Ford Foundation originally occupied 11 floors of a traditional office building, with floors relatively isolated from each other. To create a sense of community, Roche arranged the new offices in a C-shape. All users can see each other in the garden and enjoy natural light from the glass curtain walls and skylights. ๐ฟ The lower floors are set back to create terraces overlooking the garden, accessible from each office via sliding glass doors. ๐๐ฟ The design employs several scales ranging from small to large. ๐๏ธ๐ The first is the human scale related to the size of the offices, window heights, and ceiling heights. ๐ฟ The second scale takes into account the characteristics of the residential area on 43rd Street. The last is the grand scale connecting to the 42nd Street street level. ๐๏ธ๐ In some ways, this grand scale was influenced by the construction of large highway bridgesโmassive buildings with an incredible, vibrant scale. ๐๐ #AllAboutArt #OfficeBuildingDesign ๐๏ธ๐
