In addition to the Kingdom of France, it has also belonged to the Duchy of Burgundy, the Holy Roman Empire, and the Spanish Netherlands. It wasn't until Louis XIV won the War of the Spanish Succession that Lille returned to France. 📸 Since then, it has experienced the French Revolutionary Wars, both World Wars, and other conflicts, truly suffering through wars and sieges.
