France Travel - Lille

❣️ When traveling to and from London to Paris by Eurostar, you will pass through Lille, located in the northern part of France. Lille has the Flemish charm of lowland countries like the Netherlands and Belgium, yet it is a truly French city, which piqued my curiosity. 🥰 Therefore, I decided to take advantage of a weekend holiday to visit this city that I always passed by but never stopped at. ■ 🧩 History of Lille ❣️ Located on the French-Belgian border, Lille has changed hands many times in history. In addition to the Kingdom of France, it has also belonged to the Duchy of Burgundy, the Holy Roman Empire, and the Spanish Netherlands. It wasn't until Louis XIV won the War of the Spanish Succession that Lille returned to France. 📸 Since then, it has experienced the French Revolutionary Wars, both World Wars, and other conflicts, truly suffering through wars and sieges. As a result, there are many war memorials and a huge fortress left from the time of Louis XIV. ■ 🧩 Attractions in Lille 🌸 The main attractions in Lille include the Old Stock Exchange, General de Gaulle Square, the Belfry, the Paris Gate, art galleries, and the Lille Fortress, among others. Except for the Lille Fortress, most attractions are concentrated in the old town area, making it a very pedestrian-friendly city. 🌹 In fact, I fell in love with Lille as soon as I arrived. Lille is of moderate size, offering both the convenience of a city and the charm of a historic town. #France #Lille #TravelDiary #MyTravelDiary #RecommendationGuide #Plan
