Fraunces Tavern (& Museum)🌟
Here stands New York’s oldest tavern, said to be the second oldest in the United States—I didn’t verify, but its 300-year history is undeniable. 🗽On December 4, 1783, as the American Revolutionary War ended, George Washington held his Farewell Dinner in the Long Room on the second floor, hosting the generals who had loyally followed him. 🎊 The first floor of the tavern is spacious, divided into various sections: a dining area, a dedicated whiskey bar, and a regular bar. The second floor features a piano bar with live jazz performances. The lighting and decor exude a strong sense of history. 🌆 🗽 Not much of a drinker myself, I opted for a seasonal passion fruit white wine Sangria, which was quite mild and pleasant. 🍷 The real surprise was the food—it was actually quite good! First off, it didn’t have the excessive saltiness common in many New York restaurants, which already earned it a solid 70 points in my book. 🗽Secondly, it wasn’t the typical hearty American fare. I was pleasantly surprised by the signature Scotch egg and hot chicken pie I ordered. To pass the time, I also got a post-dinner brownie, expecting the worst, but it turned out to be quite delicious! 🍰 #NewYork 🗽 #HistoricTavern 🍻 #FrauncesTavern 🌟
