From Pho to Korean Food—All Tried-and-Tested Delicious Spots!

As a serious foodie, I just have to share my go-to food list for St. Louis 🤸🏻‍♀️! Covering light Vietnamese pho, authentic Chinese food, and Korean cuisine, each spot comes with a rating and an "avoidance guide"—follow this, and you won’t hit a bad meal! 🍜 Vietnamese Pho | Mai Lee ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Compared to a pho spot I tried in Indianapolis, this one is way cleaner and has a better atmosphere! Walking in feels comfortable, with no greasy vibes at all~ Must-order: Mango Sticky Rice 🥭 — The mango is super sweet and juicy, and the sticky rice is coated in coconut milk. Every bite is full of tropical flavor—I even wanted to lick the plate clean after! Signature Pho: The flavor is on the lighter side (milder than the pho I’ve had before), but it’s perfect for sisters who prefer light food. The broth is fresh without being overly salty, and the beef slices are so tender they melt in your mouth. Pair it with fresh herbs for an extra refreshing touch~ 🍲 Chinese Food Roundup | 3 Spots Tested—Treasures and Pitfalls Included 1. Corner 17 ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ (A Surprise on Delmar Loop) Hidden in the Delmar Loop area, it’s super convenient for eating while shopping— I was too busy eating to take photos! Order these three without hesitation: Sweet and Sour Fried Fish (Songshu Yu) — Crispy on the outside, tender on the inside, evenly coated in sweet-tart sauce. Even the bones are crispy enough to chew! Boiled Beef in Spicy Broth — Moderate spiciness, tender beef, and the bean sprouts at the bottom soak up the broth perfectly—so flavorful! Spicy Cold Wheat Noodles — Super appetizing in summer! The noodles are chewy, and the sesame sauce and chili oil are incredibly fragrant. Minor letdown: San Bei Ji (Three-Cup Chicken) isn’t authentic—it tastes more like braised chicken chunks, missing the aroma of basil. Not recommended~ 2. Cate Zone Chinese Cafe ⭐️⭐️⭐️ (Great for Northeastern Chinese Cuisine Fans) The restaurant is small but has a cozy, homey vibe. It specializes in Northeastern Chinese food, with slightly salty flavors—perfect if you love bold tastes! Must-tries: Dry-Fried Pork Intestines — Fried until super crispy, chewy and fragrant with no off-odor. The more you eat, the more addictive it gets! Sweet and Sour Pork (Guo Bao Rou) — Crispy outside, tender inside, with a perfect sweet-tart taste. The batter isn’t too thick, so you get a solid bite of meat every time. Cumin Lamb — Strong cumin flavor, no gamey taste from the lamb. Perfect with rice! Things to note: ① When we went, the restaurant only accepted cash—not sure if this has changed, so it’s best to bring some cash just in case. ② Barbecue is only available on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays—don’t make a wasted trip if you’re specifically going for BBQ. ③ Avoid La Zi Ji (Spicy Chicken) — The batter is too thick, so you can barely taste the meat, and the texture is too doughy~ 3. Chilispot ⭐️⭐️⭐️ (Average—Some Dishes Stand Out) The restaurant is bigger than the previous two, but overall it’s just average—some dishes are good, some are not. Order selectively~ Recommended tries: Sour Soup with Fatty Beef — The sour soup is bold and flavorful, with a generous amount of fatty beef. Pair it with enoki mushrooms for a perfect rice side! Sliced Pork with Garlic Sauce — Thin slices of pork that don’t fall apart, with fragrant garlic sauce—refreshing and not greasy. Fu Qi Fei Pian (Spicy Beef Tripe Salad) — The seasoning is good, but the beef tripe has a slight fishy smell. It’s okay if you pick around that~ Pitfall warning: Spicy Crayfish isn’t fresh and has an earthy, fishy taste. Not recommended~ 🥘 Korean Food Gem | JooJoo Restaurant & Karaoke ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Five stars without a doubt! It’s a bit far, but it’s totally worth the trip for this authentic Korean food~ Every dish is incredible: Army Stew — Piled high with ingredients, with melted cheese and spam soaked in broth. You can adjust the spiciness, and it’s warm and comforting in winter. Cold Noodles — Sweet, sour, and icy cold, with chewy noodles—super refreshing in summer, and loaded with toppings! Kimchi Fried Rice — Strong kimchi flavor, fluffy separated rice grains. Add a fried egg and mix it in for extra deliciousness! About the BBQ: Although it’s slightly more expensive than other Korean BBQ spots, the portions are huge—the meat is fresh, crispy on the outside and tender on the inside. Wrap it in lettuce with kimchi for a perfect bite~ #StLouisFoodRecommendations #StLouisPho #StLouisChineseFood #StLouisKoreanFood #SeriousFoodieGuide
