Golden Wuish (The Duckhouse): A Warning Review for NYC Roast Duck

Restaurant: Golden Wuish (The Duckhouse) Based on several enthusiasticrecommendations, my friend and I decided to try this spot. The interior was dimly lit and styled in dark tones, and interestingly, almost every diner there was Chinese. Unfortunately, what followed was a deeply disappointing experience that I feel compelled to share. 🚨 Here are the four major issues we encountered: Questionable Food Hygiene 🦠 Shortly after our meal, both of us fell ill. One experienced immediate diarrhea upon returning home, while the other suffered from vomiting in the middle of the night. This strongly suggests problems with food safety or handling—a serious red flag for any restaurant. Forced 25% Tip Policy 💸 Unlike the standard 18% baseline tipping norm in NYC, this restaurant enforces a minimum 25% service charge. This feels unreasonable, even predatory, especially given the lackluster service we received. Overly Greasy Roast Duck 🦆🔥 While the duck arrived with a dramatic flame presentation—which, honestly, made me wonder if something like gasoline was used to ignite it—the taste did not live up to the spectacle. The meat was excessively oily, and the flavor felt heavy and unrefined, lacking the delicate crispness and balance expected of quality roast duck. Subpar Service 😑 For a restaurant charging around $100 per person, the service was surprisingly inattentive. Only one server appeared to be managing the entire dining room throughout the evening. We waited over 10 minutes just to receive water after being seated, and every time we needed assistance, it took far too long to get anyone’s attention. Overall, this was not just a mediocre meal—it was an experience that left us feeling both physically unwell and financially taken advantage of. I cannot in good conscience recommend Golden Wuish to anyone. If you’re craving authentic, well-prepared roast duck in NYC, there are far more reliable and respectful establishments to choose from. #NYCRoastDuck #ChineseFoodNYC #NYCFoodWarning #BadDiningExperience #NYCEats #OverpricedNYC #FoodSafety #NYCRestaurantReview
