Gothic Marvel on New York's Fifth Avenue (1)๐
While strolling down New York's Fifth Avenue, I was absolutely stunned by the magnificent architecture before meโamidst the bustling and high-valued real estate of Manhattan's Fifth Avenue, there stands such a massive church! Upon further research, I discovered that this building holds so many legends. ๐ ๐ It is none other than St. Patrick's Cathedral, the pinnacle of American Gothic Revival architecture and a spiritual landmark for Catholics in New York. ๐ Construction began in 1858, designed by architect James Renwick Brown, drawing inspiration from Notre-Dame de Paris and Cologne Cathedral in Germany. Due to the American Civil War, funding shortages, and other reasons, construction was halted multiple times, finally being completed in 1879, with the twin spires finished in 1888. ๐ฐ๏ธ ๐ข The church is approximately 132 meters long, with twin spires soaring over 100 meters high. The exterior is crafted from white marble and limestone, while the interior stretches over 100 meters in depth, with a dome height equivalent to a ten-story building, capable of accommodating nearly 3,000 people. ๐ Amidst the skyscrapers of Manhattan, it stands as a unique visual focal point on Fifth Avenue with its classical Gothic aesthetic. ๐ ๐ธ #NewYork ๐
