Hidden Gem in France 💐 A Sacred Pilgrimage Site

Time to introduce you to a lesser-known rural destination in France! This small town isn't a hot spot, but its scenery and architecture are truly stunning. It's a seriously underrated French town, perfect for a weekend visit~ 📍 Rocamadour 💐 Travel Tips: 🔹 Before entering the village, take a moment to admire the panoramic view of the entire village. The best spot is from a small village on the edge of Rocamadour, l'Hospitalet, where you can overlook the beauty of the town, and it's especially romantic when lit up at night. 🔹 Rocamadour boasts 4 beautiful arched stone gates: Porte Basse, Porte du Figuier, Porte Salmon, and Porte Hugon. The lower town sits on the lowest hill, with the main street adorned with beautiful golden stone houses and lauzé roofs. It's completely pedestrianized, with many charming restaurants and quaint boutiques worth exploring. 🔹 Starting from Rue de la Couronnerie, you'll arrive at a series of grand steps known as the Grand Escalier, leading to a small square surrounded by 8 significant religious buildings, also a destination for pilgrims. 🔹 Above the sanctuary is the Château de Rocamadour. You can walk around the castle along the shaded path between the two, enjoying the beautiful views of the village. Pilgrims often crawl on their knees up the 216 steps to the sanctuary. If that sounds tiring, don't worry, there's also an elevator between the sanctuary and the lower town. You'll need to buy a ticket to ride it! 🔹 The stunning villages of Loubresac and Carennac, and the town of Martel are all close to Rocamadour, with many exquisite buildings to admire. Plan to visit them together! #OffTheBeatenPath #BeautifulVillage #WeekendGetaway #France #FrenchAttractions #FranceTravel #FrenchLife
