Hiking in Sri Lanka's Tropical Rainforest--Sinharaja Forest Reserve
This place is teeming with wildlife; walking along the forest trails, you'll encounter various reptiles, insects, and amphibians such as 🦎🦤🦚🦧 in the dense canopy, several species of monkeys can be seen leaping from branch to branch. What excites children the most is seeing the monitor lizards, with some as large as an adult human. ✨However, there's no need to fear; monitor lizards do not eat people, their diet mainly consists of carrion and fish. Additionally, the rainforest is home to some special species, like the hammer-headed tree lizard, the Sri Lanka junglefowl that resembles a rooster, nightjars that rest on bushes during the day, and unique protected plants like the Nepenthes, a type of wild pitcher plant. 🌳For those who enjoy natural history travel, this is a place well worth visiting, as many of the flora and fauna here are endemic species. I'm looking forward to leading a group there in July during the summer vacation. 🚗🏠Public transportation here is not convenient; we usually go by chartered bus. There are places to stay outside the park, small hotels with local character, but the conditions are relatively simple. It's also possible to go there on your own; take a taxi to the entrance of the park, buy a ticket, and you'll be accompanied by a park guide when you enter. Remember to tip the guide after the return trip. 🔔A reminder that there may be leeches in the rainforest, so it's advisable to wear long socks. #Hiking # Sri Lanka#Rainforest#Sinharaja Forest Reserve#Sri lanka#trip diary#travel guide
