Hospicio Cabañas, Guadalajara
✅The Hospicio Cabañas (Museo Cabañas) is a Neoclassical-style building commissioned by Bishop Cabañas. Arriving in Mexico in 1796,🥳 he established this sanctuary to shelter orphans, the elderly, and the impoverished. ✅The bishop entrusted Valencian architect Manuel Tolsá with the design, who then assigned his student José Gutiérrez to oversee its construction. 💫In 1937, artist José Clemente Orozco began painting the chapel's interior. His 57 vividly colored murals, featuring the Man of Fire as the centerpiece of the domed ceiling, are regarded as masterpieces of Jalisco muralism. 💫This historic site also marks where Miguel Hidalgo, Mexico's founding father, signed the Abolition of Slavery Act, granting freedom to the Mexican people. 🍃Recognized for its architectural beauty and cultural significance, the Hospicio Cabañas was designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1997. Today, it functions as a museum and cultural center. 🍃Outside, visitors encounter bronze statues of Bishop Cabañas, including one of several sculpted bronze chairs at the entrance. #WorldHeritageSite #Mexico #Guadalajara
