House of Dawn – Richmond’s New Fusion Hotspot
The luxe House of Dawn has taken over the former flower spot in the same plaza as Tang Tang. Just opened with a 10% discount (surprise bonus at checkout!). 📍 8171 Ackroyd Rd #130, Richmond, BC 🍽️ First Impressions • Vibe: Feels like an upscaled Hestia—Asian-Western fusion, chic decor, and non-Chinese staff (despite being Chinese-owned). • Drinks: Heavy on yuzu! • Royal Decree: Sake with yuzu • House of Dawn Tonic: Non-alcoholic yuzu soda 🥢 What We Ordered (4 People) ✅ House of Dawn Foie Gras Rice Bowl Foie gras on Chinese-style cured meat fried rice—rich and fragrant. ❌ Chilli Mirin Mussels Not spicy at all. Skip. ✅ Crispy Shrimp Roll Crunchy exterior, shrimp paste inside, topped with cheese, fish roe, and mayo. ➖ Salmon Aburi Sushi Decent but nothing special. Good for the price. 🥩 House of Dawn Signature Ribeye Steak (For Two) $99 (!) but… • Meat quality: Excellent • Sides: Chicken jus & vinegar sauce were 🔥 • Downside: Served on a metal plate—cooled down too fast. ⚠️ Service Issues • Water? What water? Asked for hot water—got boiling after 10 mins. • No spoons for rice. Soy sauce & chopsticks arrived after we’d eaten half the sushi. • Drinks came at the end of the meal. • 40-minute wait for the first dish. • "Surprise! 10% off!" at checkout (after we’d already tipped). 💡 Final Thoughts ✅ Food flavors: Bold, almost suspiciously good (in a "did they use food tech?" way). ✅ Ambience: Stunning—open kitchen, grand dining hall vibes. ❌ Service: Needs serious training. Worth a try? Yes, but maybe wait until they iron out the kinks. #VancouverEats #FusionFood #RichmondBC #HouseOfDawn #NewRestaurantAlert
