Inside NYC’s First-Of-Its Kind Housing Lottery — Affordable West Village Units Plus A Public NYC Parks Rec Center With A Gym & Six-Lane Indoor Pool
**Housing lotteries** are getting quite creative as of late, and the Hudson Mosaic is but one of the city’s most eye-catching projects. A development for the Hudson Square/[West Village](https://secretnyc.co/things-to-do-in-west-village-nyc/) community, this undertaking plans to utilize a DEP-owned lot and transform the area into roughly 280 affordable units, plus a state-of-the-art rec center from the NYC Parks Department. “This first-ever combination of affordable housing with a recreation center offers a model of what innovative housing solutions with community input should look like,” said Deputy Mayor for Housing, Economic Development, and Workforce, Adolfo Carrión, Jr. After months of planning, the New York City Department of Housing Preservation & Development (HPD) , Department of Parks & Recreation (NYC Parks) , and Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) have come together to put the wheels in motion. Here’s what to expect. Inside the Hudson Mosaic ------------------------ Camber and S:US will work on a “community-driven design [with] inclusive growth”, something that reflects the area well and will propel it into a new chapter. Karen Hu, Head of Development, Principal at Camber Property Group said, “Our design balances a contemporary, innovative approach with a deep respect for the historic fabric of the neighborhood.” Although it’s a bit too soon to see what the units themselves will look like, features of the building include: * A sixth-floor outdoor terrace * A fitness room * A children’s room * A community lounge area According to a rep from New York City Housing Connect, where the listings will appear when the project is complete, Hudson Mosaic will serve single dwellers to larger families, across low- to moderate-income levels. Part of the building will be set aside for formerly homeless New Yorkers, with on-site supportive services available. ### The rec center Although the rec center will catapult this listing into historic territory for NYC, the public will be permitted to use the park. YC Parks Commissioner Iris Rodriguez-Rosa said, “The new recreation center at Hudson Mosaic will offer year-round access to affordable, accessible, high-quality amenities that support health, wellness, and community connection. We’re proud to help bring this transformative space to life.” The community can expect a year-round facility with a gymnasium, a six-lane indoor pool, an indoor walking/running track, and cardio and strength rooms, to name a few amenities. Before the project breaks ground, the HPD, DEP, and Parks Department must work to obtain approvals, communicate with neighbors and shareholders, and secure financing before construction.
