Is Providence the Best Michelin Restaurant in LA? 🇺🇸
We arrived an hour early and were seated at the bar, where we enjoyed cocktails and whiskey while waiting. The menu was printed with a sweet “honeymoon” greeting — and yes, you can take it home as a souvenir! 💌 🩵 Four one-bite starters Potato with uni: rich potato aroma + fresh uni, well-balanced. Black truffle Wagyu tartare: Jianjian’s favorite — visibly rich and fatty. Salmon roll: a bit salty. The last one… unmemorable (and I didn’t even snap a photo 😅). 🦪 Pacific Oysters Layered with pickled radish, warm soft oyster, and caviar on top. The oyster was fresh and sweet, pickles helped cut richness, caviar was a touch salty — decent but not outstanding. 🐟 Sashimi A Japanese wild fish with tomato and basil. Fish was fine, but the sauce tasted a bit odd. 🍥 Red Abalone Served in a “tower” with diced abalone, egg sabayon, and abalone broth underneath. Chewy, flavorful — almost like it had been simmered in miso soup. Very nice. 🥖 Bread & Butter The bread uses special locally sourced flour grown with only natural rainwater. The butter was the star of the whole meal — subtly fragrant at first, then blooming on the tongue. 🧈✨ 🐚 Hokkaido Scallop With carrot and scallop XO sauce. Sweet, firm, delicious. The carrot had a meaty texture — unlike any carrot I’ve had! 🐠 Striped Bass Topped with Indian-French spices, served with sauerkraut and three styles of eggplant (chip, purée, pickle). The fish was tender, but spices overpowered it. Eggplant and sauerkraut were too sour/bitter for me. Mains Jianjian chose salmon, I went for A5 Wagyu (add $45). 🍣 Columbia River King Salmon With morel mushrooms and lentils. Cooked sous-vide? It had a tuggy, neither-raw-nor-cooked texture… a bit strange. 🥩 A5 Wagyu Juicy and rich — but mostly fat with very little lean meat. I got halfway through before feeling overwhelmed. Morels were salty. Not sure it was worth the upgrade. 🍧 Peach Yuzu Sorbet Refreshing, tangy-sweet, with visible peach bits. A clean, delightful palate cleanser. 🍫 Chocolate Dessert Very sweet — brownie, nuts, ice cream, caramel sauce with a sour-salty twist. The white ice cream was milky and smooth. 🍮 Additional desserts were packed to-go since we were too full! Total dining time: ~2.5 hours. Menu options: 🔅 Classic Menu $325 (before tax) 🧑🍳 Chef’s Menu $450 (The Classic offers one main course choice; the Chef’s includes all three mains.) 💰 With one martini, tax, and tip, our total came to around $980. #FrenchCuisine #RestaurantRecommendation #Providence #LAEats #Michelin #FineDining
