Izu Shimoda Park | Japan's Largest Hydrangea Sea 🌸
At the southern tip of the Izu Peninsula, Shidamachi Park boasts Japan's largest hydrangea field. 🌿🌟Leveraging the undulating terrain, over 150,000 hydrangeas of more than a hundred varieties are cultivated here, reportedly producing three million blossoms that blanket the hillside. During the Azuchi-Momoyama period, the hill where Shimoda Parkk now stands was once a defensive fortress. 🌿🌟 The Hojo clan's navy faced off against Toyotomi Hideyoshi's navy here. Though the structures are long gone, the remnants of the castle keep remain, now serving as a stage for the vibrant hydrangeas. In June, the peak of the rainy season, the hydrangeas are at their most splendid. 🌿🌟 Strolling along the paths of Shidamachi Park, you're surrounded by shrubs and flower clusters that reach up to your waist, as if floating in a sea of hydrangeas. #Hydrangeas #FlowerViewing #Izu #Shizuoka 🌿🌟
