Kamakura, Jōraku-zan Engaku-ji Temple 🌟
Engaku-ji Temple 🍃🌸 Established in 1282 (Koan 5) by Hojo Tokimune, the 8th regent of the Kamakura Shogunate, to commemorate those who gave their lives fighting off the Mongol invasions of 1274 and 1281. 🌿 🍃🌸The temple’s name honors the Zen monk Mugaku Sogen of the Southern Song Dynasty. It is the head temple of the Engaku-ji School of Zen Buddhism’s Rinzai sect and is ranked second among the five temples of Kamakura . 🌇 🍃🌸Various events are held at the Hojo Abbot’s Quarter, such as sermon meetings , Zen practice/meditation sessions and sutra transcribing. Visitors may take a break in the shade while admiring the beautiful garden with a pond. 🌿 There are two hidden tea houses on site: Butsunichian, which requires a separate entrance ticket, and Bentendo Tea House, located near the Great Brahma Bell. 🍵 #HiddenTravelSpots #KamakuraEngakuji 🌟
