Kato | A Must-Try Michelin Star Experience in LA! 🌟
We had a reservation for 8:00 PM and finished around 11:00 PM—a total of about three hours, and the entire experience was absolutely incredible! 😍✨ 1️⃣ First Course: Chilled Noodles The theme might seem unrelated, but the dish features yellowtail, sesame sauce, cucumber, and radish, with a hint of mustard. My partner called it: “Northeastern-style cold skin noodles.” 😄 The rich, buttery texture of the yellowtail takes the lead, yet the dish remains refreshing and appetizing. 🍜 2️⃣ Second Course: Fish Maw Soup This was probably my favorite dish! 🥣 A luxurious mix of egg, fish, caviar, and lobster—each spoonful was a burst of layered flavors. The caviar was exceptionally smooth, not too salty, and clearly high quality. 3️⃣ Third Course: Hot Pot-Inspired Broth The broth was deeply savory with a mild spicy kick—a creative take on hot pot flavors. 🍲 Featuring scallops and smoked fish, with a tangy-spicy mustard base. The scallops were tender, and the warmth of the broth lingered pleasantly. 4️⃣ Fourth Course: Basil Clams with Cod A bit mysterious in composition but delicious! 😋 This dish signaled the transition to main courses—heartier and richer. The cod was pan-seared, accompanied by clams and abalone. 5️⃣ Fifth Course: Wok-Fried Lobster Though called “wok-fried,” it tasted more like pan-seared or lightly fried. 🦞 The lobster was incredibly tender! Served on fried bread, which my partner found nostalgic, though I found it a bit too oily. 6️⃣ Sixth Course: Cumin Lamb + Bread A less inventive but tasty dish—reminiscent of Taiwanese spicy oil and night-market lamb skewers! 🍖 The lamb was cooked medium, crispy outside and juicy inside. The accompanying pork and ham were also perfectly balanced—though the bread was again too oily for me. 7️⃣ Seventh Course: Shaved Ice The dessert section began here! 🍧 Fresh strawberry chunks over rich yogurt, topped with crunchy, granular shaved ice—just like the old-school summer treat! 8️⃣ Eighth Course: Pineapple Cake “Napoleon” We nicknamed it “Napoleon”! 🍍 The pastry was flaky, filled with pineapple cream and bits, balanced by a ginger-brown tea sauce. Eaten together—perfection! 9️⃣ Ninth Course: Lava Bun A salted egg yolk lava bun that bursts in your mouth! 🥚 A satisfying and flavorful end to the meal. Final thoughts: A bit pricey, but truly delicious—100% worth trying! 🎉 Have you been to Kato? What’s your favorite multi-course dining experience?
