Kimura, who has been growing crops for a long time, is disappointing
I’ve had this East Village Japanese izakaya 🏮 saved for ages—I’ve always wanted to check it out with friends, but every time I tried to go, there were no seats available! Finally, I managed to go on a weekend with a friend visiting New York… and I was so disappointed. 😕 🍴 Kimura Their most famous dishes are actually all the hot pots, but we didn’t feel like sukiyaki that day, so we skipped them. 【Beef tongue slices】: Hard pass. ❗️ The beef tongue had no chewiness at all—felt like they used the wrong cut. It had tendons, was a bit fatty, and had almost no flavor. Even the shichimi togarashi couldn’t save it. 【Gyoza】 🥟: My friend said they were okay—just average izakaya level, but a bit greasy. 【Butter sautéed seafood 🦐 and mushroom】: It had shrimp 🦐, scallops, fish shumai (maybe?), squid, mushrooms, and spinach. The flavor was miso butter salty-freshness—it was okay, not greasy. 【Kimura roll】: This is their most signature roll 🍣—you’re supposed to grill it on the tin foil it comes with. But❗️ Do NOT order it. After grilling, the bottom of the roll was totally burnt, and the whole thing was super bland. It was barely edible, and we had to scoop it with a spoon—it was such a messy eat. 【Hataka lobster 🦞 roll】: Even worse. It had the most rice I’ve ever seen in an American-style sushi roll—most of it was just rice. The seasoning was incredibly plain—tasted like nothing, but I felt bad wasting it. Overall, the food was just so average. Maybe it’s because we didn’t order their famous hot pots, but that’s no excuse for the other dishes to be this bad. I really don’t get why this place is so popular! #NYCEats #JapaneseFood #StudentFoodie #Sushi #Food #NYCFood #NYC #Sukiyaki #NYCJapaneseFood #NYCStudyAbroad #DailyEats #IzakayaFood #NYCIzakaya #NYCDaily #SushiRolls
