Korean Steamed & Smoked Duck in a Wooden Box 😭🍐✨
Is Gardena the new Koreatown? Why are there so many authentic Korean spots here?! A Korean friend brought me to this underrated traditional restaurant—specializing in cypress wood-steamed smoked duck—and it totally blew my mind! 🤯🍽️ At first, I was skeptical when he said we were going to Gardena for “real Korean food,” but as soon as I saw the menu, I knew it was special. Every table was filled with ahjussis and ahjummas enjoying these beautiful wooden boxes steaming with meat—it’s their signature style: Korean cypress wood steaming cuisine. We ordered: 🦆 Cypress-Steamed Smoked Duck – I don’t even know how to describe how good this was! It looks light and healthy, but the smoked duck is incredibly flavorful. Served in a wooden box, steamed for about a minute at the table—the steam makes the duck super tender and juicy. 🥟 Sundae (Korean Blood Sausage) – I’ve had sundae all over LA, but this was the first time I truly got it. The blend of pig’s blood and glutinous rice was rich and layered. 🦐 Seafood Pancake – Even this classic was next-level. Crispy, loaded with ingredients, and perfectly cooked. The vibe is like an old-school, family-run restaurant in a small Korean town—everything feels handmade and heartfelt. If you’re tired of the usual army stew or Korean BBQ, this place offers something truly unique and authentic. It’s a bit far (almost near Torrance), but it’s 100% worth the drive—zero flaws otherwise!
