LA Food Find: Xiao Jiu Guan Skewers in Hacienda Heights 😋

Feeling like it’s been ages since I last had skewers, I decided to try out Xiao Jiu Guan in Hacienda Heights. What’s great is that many skewer spots don’t open for lunch, but this one does! I’d been to their Monterey Park location before, but nothing really stood out. This time, however, the experience was much better! 🎉 The restaurant is located in a plaza with plenty of parking. Inside, the decorative paintings caught my eye, and the staff were super friendly. 😊 We ordered a bunch of items: lamb and beef skewers, squid tentacles, potatoes, larger lamb skewers, what I think were beef rib skewers, corn skewers, taro balls, grilled cold noodles, and a cucumber salad. The cucumber salad was surprisingly large—around $9—and refreshingly crisp, perfect for balancing the richer flavors throughout the meal. I’ve never tried authentic grilled cold noodles, but I really enjoyed these—they were fragrant and soft. The taro balls were a standout dessert—crispy on the outside, soft on the inside, and not too sweet. Even the little ones loved them! 🍠 As for the skewers, the potatoes were crispy, and the corn was nice and chewy. The larger lamb skewers were delicious, but the squid tentacles were a bit under-seasoned for my taste. The smaller skewers were just okay, and the larger beef skewers were a bit tough to chew. 😕 We ended with a shaved ice dessert, which was pretty mediocre. It looked Instagram-worthy, but there wasn’t much mochi inside, and the ice itself was overly sweet. Won’t be ordering that again! 🍧 Overall, I really enjoyed the meal. The prices were reasonable, and I’d definitely go back for the cucumber salad, taro balls, grilled cold noodles, larger lamb skewers, and potato skewers. Maybe next time I’ll try some of their other skewers too! 👍 #LAFood #LosAngelesEats #Skewers #XiaoJiuGuan #FoodReview #HaciendaHeights #AsianCuisine
