LA German Food: Red Lion Tavern 🦁
Giant Pork Knuckle with a Touch of Northeast China Flavor After attending Oktoberfest, I developed a special love for German beer—especially Lager 🍻. I’d long wanted to try the sausages, beer, and roasted pork knuckle here, and finally got the chance—it was super satisfying and surprisingly affordable! Red Lion Tavern 📍 2366 Glendale Blvd, Silver Lake They offer free parking on a sloped lot, but be careful—the incline is steep, so watch your car’s underside when turning in from the main road. Since it’s essentially a bar, they check ID in the evening and stamp a little lion head on your hand 🦁. The first floor feels like an Irish pub, but dining happens on the second floor with full table service. The vibe is like an open-air courtyard—great for drinking beer 🍺 and watching sports at night. The servers dress in traditional German outfits, and the atmosphere is lively and cozy! ✨ Beer is delicious! You can order a flight and sample four different kinds. If you know what you like, ordering a full glass is cheaper. Remember: Don’t drink and drive, friends! ✨ Portions are huge and very filling! Most main dishes come with mashed potatoes. What we ordered could easily feed five girls—no exaggeration! 🌟🌟🌟 German Pretzel – As big as your face! Soft, fragrant pretzel with a chewy texture. They usually add a $1.5 fermented butter spread—you can ask to skip it if you prefer. 🌟🌟🌟 Sausage Platter – Perfect for the indecisive! Includes four types of sausages—great with beer, not too salty, super flavorful. (By the way, also check out Wurstkuche in the Arts District—they specialize in German-style hot dogs, with sausages displayed in a glass case. You can even buy sausages to take home. Beer is great too—only downside is no platter, so you can’t try multiple flavors at once.) 🌟🌟 Red Lion Schnitzel – German-style fried pork cutlet. Unlike tender Japanese tonkatsu, this one is firm, lean but not dry, with a strong meaty flavor. Tasty, but maybe not the first thing I’d order (portions are seriously big!). 🌟🌟🌟 Gerauchertes Eisbein – Roasted pork knuckle. Not as salty as rumors say—tender and falls off the bone, but not overly soft like Chinese-style braised knuckle. It’s smoky, juicy, and incredibly tasty with sauerkraut and pretzel. Absolutely loved it! #LosAngeles #LAEats #LAFoodReview #LALife #LADining #LAGermanFood #LARestaurants #HeartyMeals #BeerLovers #OktoberfestVibes #PorkKnuckle #ComfortFood
